How to Revise

At Nobel we encourage students to follow the ‘Power Hour’ as a way to structure their revision time. It is used throughout the school in revision lessons and for home learning tasks. It is based around cognitive science practises and the importance of repetition and retrieval in securing knowledge. When used in conjunction with the revision timetable and other revision resources, we believe it provides students with the tools they need to be successful. [ut_clear] power hour

I have been talking to the whole school about ‘British values’ through year assemblies this week. It is actually a Government requirement that all schools promote the values of:
  • Freedom
  • Tolerance
  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
These are fundamental values that we should cherish as Nobelians. I also made connections between the values, to help our young people grasp how one value leads to another. For example, that our individual freedom cannot be unlimited as it might impinge on the freedom of others: accepting alternative views and being tolerant of others is vital, so long as those views are within the law. I would like our whole school community to emphasise these values, and would therefore encourage you to discuss them at home. If we were to have an inspection, Ofsted as the government agency that monitors schools, would want to see that we both promote British values and challenge behaviour that threatens them. Below is the PowerPoint that has shown in the assemblies. [ut_clear] mhenson [ut_clear] Martyn Henson Headteacher

On Tuesday 23 November, fourteen Nobelians identified as most able in music took part in a song writing workshop. This workshop offered students the chance to write their own songs for voice and piano whilst working collaboratively with others. At the end of the workshop students performed their songs and we were able to record them. You can find some of the recordings attached and students should be very proud of the songs they have produced and the hard work they put in. Miss Woodhouse

There is a new Schools Closure Notification System which has recently been set up by Hertfordshire County Council which will allow the school to notify the council of a school closure, major incident, crisis or emergency. Parents should register to receive these notifications either by SMS or by email as this will be the schools only method of contacting parents in the event of an emergency school closure due to bad weather or To register please visit the following website: [ut_button color="theme-btn" target="_blank" link="https://member.everbridge.net/index/892807736725489" size="small" title="Register for alerts" ]Register for alerts[/ut_button]
  • At the “Sign Up” page click on the “sign up” button located at the top right hand side of the page on the grey strip and from there follow the instructions. It should take no more than 5 minutes to register and you can edit your information at any time should you change your mobile number or email address. Each contact within the system can have 2 devices added for each communication type which means that in addition to adding your own mobile number and email address, you could include the mobile number and email address of a partner or a grandparent. They too would then receive any messages in relation to the school’s closure. Alternatively, interested parties could register themselves separately.
  • If you have children at more than one school you can register for those schools too in a single registration process by selecting all schools you have children at. Once signed up you will receive messages should the school close in the event of an emergency.
